Introduction

Sino-Africa Joint Research Center (SAJOREC) is a talent cultivation and scientific research institute supported by the Chinese government based on the exchange of official letters between the Chinese government and the Kenyan government. SAJOREC is vigorously promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation in areas of much importance to African countries and to the world. It serves as an open and inclusive platform to enforce capacity building in Africa, to demonstrate China’s adaptable technology, and to act as a think-tank in science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development.

Since its establishment in 2013,SAJOREC has put forward a series of joint research programs on relevant research. The center has already obtained 69 patents,supported publishing 16 academic monographs,and over 720 peer-reviewed papers,among which more than 30 papers were published in Nature,Nature Plants,Nature Communications,and published 17 new plant species. 

So far, SAJOREC has provided scholarships to 333 students from Africa to pursue master’s or PhD. Degrees. Over 1000 scientists and senior technicians have been trained through 40 training courses and seminars. Moreover, 30 international meetings and conferences were organized by SAJOREC.

 Graduate Programs

※Master’s /Doctoral Programs

The program is recruiting international students from all over the world to pursue master’s or PhD education at UCAS. Master programs commonly last for 3 years. Doctoral programs commonly last for 3-4 years. Certificates of graduation and degrees will be awarded to those who have met the requirements of graduation and degree conferment.

※Visiting Students Programs

The UCAS has launched the Visiting Student Program to welcome outstanding young students and scholars from all over the world for short term visits,course learning,academic exchanges and research cooperation. Based on the applicant’s academic background,visiting students can be divided into two basic categories,Regular Visiting Student and Senior Visiting Student. Upon completion of his or her program,visiting student will receive a certificate of achievement but not a degree.

※Chinese Government Scholarship

In order to promote the mutual understanding and friendship,cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries,the Chinese government has set up scholarship programs to sponsor international students,teachers and scholars to study or conduct research in Chinese universities. Entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China,UCAS will recruit outstanding young graduate students from all over the world and provide them full scholarships.

※CAS-ANSO Scholarship

CAS-ANSO Scholarship (previously known as ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents) was formally launched in 2019 with the goal of training and cultivating young scientists from all over the world. CAS-ANSO Scholarship has two categories: degree program and non-degree program. The degree program supports 100 to 200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students every year to pursue postgraduate education at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) around China. 

A sub-category of CAS-ANSO Scholarship (Degree Program):the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship was officially launched in year 2022. Echoing the priority of TWAS/UNESCO,special (not exclusive) consideration will be given to two target groups: Least Development Countries (LDCs) and women. Up to 40 PhD students from developing countries will be selected by TWAS/UNESCO into this category every year.

※UCAS Scholarship

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) has set up the UCAS Scholarship for International Students to sponsor young talents all over the world to pursue Master’s or Doctoral degree, or attend courses, conduct research or pay academic visits at UCAS colleges/CAS institutes. The Scholarship also encourages international graduate students currently studying at foreign universities to come for study on joint programs. The full scholarship provides tuition waiver, application fee waiver, monthly stipend, basic accommodation and medical insurance.

 General Qualifications

(1) Non-Chinese citizens who abide by China's laws and decrees,as well as UCAS's rules and regulations.

(2) Being of good character and in good health without any infectious diseases or physical/mental disease that may affect the normal study.

(3) Applicants for master's programs must have attained a degree or academic qualification equivalent to a Chinese bachelor's degree;applicants for doctoral programs must have attained a degree or academic qualification equivalent to a Chinese master's degree. 

(4) English proficiency is required. For Chinese-instructed programs,the applicant's Chinese proficiency shall reach at least HSK Level 5 with no less than 180 scores.

 Application Guide

(1) Check eligibility criteria;

(2) Find an eligible host supervisor affiliated with a UCAS faculty or CAS institute that agrees to accept you;

(3) Submit your admission application via the online system（https://is.ucas.ac.cn/） within the application time. Please finish your online application as early as possible,for the college or institute which you select to evaluate your application and remind you to correct or complete it when necessary;

(4) Remind your supervisor to complete the related procedures in the online application system.

 Evaluation and Admission

UCAS selects candidates based on application materials review and admission examination results. Merit-based selection will determine the final admission list. Admission results can be checked through the online application system. The official admission documents will be mailed to admitted students through their respective college/institute.
