SAJOREC Partner Institute Attends the First ANSO Working Group Meeting

  The 1st ANSO Working Group Meeting was held in Ya'ao International Hotel Beijing on 13-14 May 2019. 17 ANSO member organizations and about 30 other participants from these countries and regions attended the meeting. Prof. Robert Gituru, co-director of SAJOREC, attended the meeting as a representative of the only African founding member of ANSO, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

  In Nov 4-5, 2018, ANSO was formally launched and 1st General Assembly was held successfully in Beijing. One of the main decisions of 1st ANSO Governing Board meeting was to build a working group nominated by each member organization. The ANSO working group is consisted of contact persons appointed by the representatives of ANSO member organizations, and related experts. Currently, there are 22 members in ANSO working group and ANSO will take in more contact persons and experts in future.

  In 13-14 May 2019, the 1st ANSO working group meeting was held in Ya'Ao International Hotel, Beijing. More than 40 participants from 14 countries and regions attended this workshop. The opening session was chaired by Prof. Ailikun, Assistant Executive Director of Secretariat. ANSO Vice-President, Prof. Qasim Jan gave a warm welcome to all the participants on behalf of ANSO. He mentioned that the purpose of setting up ANSO working group was to strengthen and activate the interaction and communication under the tops. He was looking forward to having more detailed discussion with working group members on ANSO future actions.

  In the opening address by Prof. Yin LI, Director General of Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS, he pointed out the launch of ANSO was listed as one of the major outputs for Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) according to "The 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation". The international cooperation on Science, Technology, Innovation and Capacity Building (STIC) is becoming one of the highest profiles for Belt and Road Development.

  Prof. Jinghua Cao, the new confirmed Executive Director of ANSO Secretariat, gave an opening address to appreciate the great support and contribution from ANSO members. He mentioned ANSO has made great progress since last General Assembly by joint hard efforts from Secretariat, Chinese Academy of Sciences and ANSO Governing Board. He emphasized that the main objectives of this workshop are to discuss the working mechanism among ANSO members and partners, to get understanding and consensus on how to implement the ANSO action plan. After the opening, he gave a presentation on the overall work of the ANSO Secretariat and the ANSO future actions. At the second session, the ANSO Secretariat made presentations on each of the ANSO future actions followed by discussions.
